OVERVIEW:  Comprises three port areas: Butterworth and Prai on the mainland and Penang island linked to the mainland by a bridge.
The Port Authority is Penang Port Commission and Penang Port Sdn Bhd is licenced to operate, manage, maintain and develop the port as well as provide facilities and services to all port users. Handles containers (North Butterworth Container Terminal (NBCT)), Butterworth Deep Water Wharves (BDWW) for breakbulk and edible oils, Prai Bulk Cargo Terminal (PBCT) for dry bulk and dangerous goods/chemicals and Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal (SPCT). The port also includes a number of privately operated berths for liquid and dry bulk cargoes.
