OVERVIEW:
Multipurpose port of entry serving the Baffin Island community. Navigation season
is mid-July to mid-October depending on ice conditions. Cargo operations carried out
at anchorage; dry cargoes transshipped by lighter/barge to shore. Iqaluit is the capital
of Nunavut and is the chief administrative, communications and transportation centre
in the eastern Arctic
LOCATION:
Iqaluit is located in the Everett Mountains rising from Koojesse (Kuujussi) Inlet,
an inlet at the head of Frobisher Bay, on the southeast part of Baffin Island.
