OVERVIEW:
Open roadstead port, handles bulk and breakbulk (including reefer) cargo and passenger
vessels. Total area of port 145,000 sq.m. (50,000 sq.m. land and 95,000 sq.m. seabed).
Coquimbo handles the export of copper from mines in the area. Wine is also widely
produced in the region and exported through the port.
LOCATION:
In a sheltered bay (Bahia Coquimbo) on the west coast of Chile, 210 n.m. north of
Santiago. Port facilities in Guayacan, a neighbourhood of Coquimbo, are listed separately
in this publication.
