AGENT'S REPORT: October 1994 (Updated 2002)
Overview:  The following is Agent's reply to questions from a vessel operator.
Terminal: Terminal Tekucih Tereta.
  1. Berth operator/user: ``Energopetrol Ploce'' DOO, Ploce Neretvanskih Gusara BB.
  2. LOA: Unlimited.
  3. Max. beam 27.0 m. 0 m.
  4. Max. d.w.t.: As much as possible within given parameters.
  5. Max. draft 10.50 m.
  6. Port Authority does not specify under-keel clearance: Bottom is mud.
  7. Min. depth in approaches: 15.0 m.
  8. Water density: Brackish water, density 1013–1023.
  9. Berthing allowed throughout 24 hours.
  10. Bunkers available. Fresh water available at the oil berth.
  11. No limitations on freeboard, but limited by above given parameters.
  12. Concrete quay: Length 120 m. Rubber fenders at intervals. Vessels' mooring lines to bollards ashore.
  13. Lighterage not available.
  14. Cargo handling: Fuel oil, all grades of diesel oil. All grades of gasolene.
  15. Dirty ballast facilities available, capacity 300 cu.m.
  16. Slops are accepted.
  17. 2 tugs available, 1,350 h.p. each. As per Harbour Master's rules, all types and sizes of tankers for mooring/unmooring are obliged to use 2 tugs.
  18. Coastal pilot boarding position for gas carriers and chemical tankers with noxious liquid substances is Lat. 43° 05′ N, Long. 017° 00′ E. For other types of tankers (oil tankers), the pilot boarding position is 1.5 n.m. west of Point Visnjica.

Arrival Notice:  72, 48 and 24 hours ETA for tankers.

48 hours advanced cargo specification is required for vessels carrying dangerous/noxious cargoes.
Approaches:  The port is well sheltered, but SE and NE winds create hazards at Piers No. 3 and No. 5. To the south and SW of the port lies the Peljesac Peninsula, a natural breakwater. Entrance through buoyed channel 0.8 km. long, width 600 m., 10.97 m. depth. Max. draft 10.5 m.
Pilotage:  Compulsory for vessels over 500 g.t., from the entrance of the channel to the berth. Pilot boards 1,500 m. outside port.
Anchorages:  Vessels are allowed to anchor west of the line which connects Konova Cove (on Peljesac Peninsula) with Lat. 43° 03′ N, Long. 017° 24′ E (on the coastline). Depth over 25.0 m.
Max. Size:  LOA 220 m., draft 10.5 m., expected to be 12.7 m. in May 2002.
Restrictions:  Navigation through the Vlaska Channel is allowed during daylight only with the assistance of two tugs.
Tugs:  Two firefighting tugs (1,200 b.h.p.). Compulsory at the tanker berth.
Berthing:  Bosanska Obala: 2 berths, length 227 m., up to 9.45 m. max. draft.
Biokovska Obala: 3 berths, length 368 m., up to 9.75 max. draft.
Obala No. 3: 3 berths, length 410 m., up to 9.75 m. max. draft.
Obala No. 5: 3 berths, length 507 m., 10.5 m. max. draft.
Specialised terminals for bulk and liquid cargoes, timber and livestock.
Storage: 70,000 sq.m. of covered storage, 300,000 sq.m. of open storage, 50,000 sq.m. timber shed.
Forklift: 35 tonnes capacity assists container handling. 50 forklifts.
Working Hours: 0600–1400 hrs., 1400–2200 hrs., excluding Sundays and holidays.
Railway connections to Sarajevo, Budapest, Prague and Bucharest. Road connections to hinterland and all parts of the country.
Cranes:  1×100 tonnes floating crane, 3×25 tonnes mobile cranes, 1×50 tonnes mobile crane and 15×5–10 tonne cranes.
Bulk Cargo Facilities:  A new bulk cargo terminal for grain, capacity 40,000 tonnes.
Average rate 400 tonnes/hr., bagging rate 1,000 bags/hr., with automatic weighing.
Grain, ores and minerals by shore cranes equipped with grabs at Berths No. 3 and No. 5. Grain through feeders to railcars.
Berth No. 1: Length 140 m., max. draft 9.15 m.
Alumina silos with 20,000 tonnes capacity. Coal handled by 4×10 tonnes travelling cranes, outreach 30 m., grab capacity 3 cu.m., average rate 150 tonnes/hr.

Pre-Arrival Information:  Tankers should send their ETA 72, 48 and 24 hours and other vessels 48 and 24 hours before arrival. 48 hours' advance cargo specification is required for vessels carrying dangerous/noxious cargoes.
Approaches:  Approaching marks to Neretvanski Kanal (Neretva Channel):
  1. Rt Lovisce Light at Peninsula Peljesac, Lat. 43° 03′ N, Long. 017° 00′ E (Fl.(3).10s.10M).
  2. Rt Sucuraj, located at east side of Island Havr, Lat. 43° 08′ N, Long. 017° 12′ E (Iso.4s.11M).
  3. Rt Visnjica Light, Lat. 43° 02′ N, Long. 017° 25′ E
  4. A safe water buoy Lat. 43° 01′ N, Long. 017° 26′ E (Plicina Gumanac Fl.10s.5M).
The port is well sheltered. The prevailing winds are from NE and SE and can reach strong gale force in winter season, as well as NW wind during summer makes manoeuvring difficult in the entrance of the basin.
Pilotage:  Compulsory for vessels over 500 g.t. and for vessels carrying dangerous chemicals, combustible substances and noxious liquid substances. Pilot boards approx. 2 n.m. WSW of Rt Visnjica Light. Pilot boarding position for vessels carrying noxious liquid substances is in position Lat. 43° 05′ N, Long. 017° 00′ E.
Anchorage:  Vessels are allowed to anchor west of the line which connects Kunova Cove (northern side of Peninsula Peljesac) with Lat. 43° 03′ N, Long. 017° 24′ E (on the coastline).
Depth over 25.0 m., good holding ground.
Max Size:  Obala No. 5:  250 m., draft 12.5 m.
Tankers:  Beam 27.0 m., draft 10.20 m.
Restrictions:  Navigation through the Vlaska Channel allowed during daylight hours only with the assistance of two tugs. Vessels shall not navigate in the Vlaska Channel when winds over 5.0 m./sec. blow N–S or winds over 7.0 m./sec. blow E–W.
Tugs:  2×1,200 h.p. with firefighting capabilities, available throughout 24 hours. Two tugs compulsory for berthing at the oil tanker berth (Vlaska Channel), and in the case of security or emergency situation (due to bad weather conditions, hazardous occurrence or fire).

Obala No. 6 has alumina silos with capacity 20,000 tonnes.
Obala No. 5 handles coal, coke and bauxite using 4×10 tonne rail-mounted cranes.

There are no facilities for handling dirty ballast or oil slops.
Fresh Water:  Available at all berths. At Berths No. 7 and 8 only available by truck.

OVERVIEW:  A naturally-protected port serving southern Croatia but also Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Cargoes handled include breakbulk, dry and liquid bulk, passengers Ro-Ro and containers.
LOCATION:  Near the mouth of the Neretva River in southern Croatia, protected from the south and SW by the Peljesac Peninsula. Ploce lies 40 n.m. NW of Dubrovnik and 50 n.m. SE of Split.
