OVERVIEW:
One of the largest export ports in the country handling approx. 2,200 vessels annually.
The port handles coal, grain, alumina, fertiliser, ore concentrates, breakbulk, passengers,
petroleum products, reefer, project and Ro-Ro cargo. The port is under the jurisdiction
of Port Authority of New South Wales and operated by Port of Newcastle Operation Pty
Ltd.
LOCATION:
At the mouth of the Hunter River on the east coast, 130 km. NNE of Sydney and 610
km. SSW of Brisbane.
PORT LIMITS:
Defined by an arc of radius 3.0 n.m., centred on Nobby’s Head Light, in position 32° 55.11′ S, 151° 47.90′ E.
