OVERVIEW:  Hazira (Surat) Port is an LNG-led multi-cargo port with one LNG berth and multiple container/multipurpose berths. The port authority is Hazira Port Private Limited (HPPL), a Shell Energy India subsidiary. The LNG terminal is operated by Shell Energy India and the container/multipurpose berths operated by Adani Hazira Port Limited (AHPL); AHPL operates all non-LNG facilities on a sub-concession basis under terms of agreement with HPPL.
In addition to LNG and containerised cargoes, imports/exports include coal, steel, sulphur, fluorspar, gypsum, cement, fertiliser, agibulk, chemicals and petroleum products. Project cargoes are also handled.
Hazira port has been developed by HPPL following the development rights granted by Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB); the port is being developed under BOOT policy (Build Own Operate Transfer) and will be transferred back to GMB after completion of 30 years BOOT period.
