OVERVIEW:  A multipurpose port protected by an extensive system of breakwaters. Many port facilities are constructed on reclaimed land. Cargoes handled include metals, dry and liquid bulk, forest products, containers, vehicles, passengers, liquefied gas and breakbulk. There is also a shipyard and extensive facilities supporting fishing operations.
LOCATION:  On the NE coast of Honshu, approx. 65 n.m. south of the eastern entrance to the Tsugaru Strait.
