OVERVIEW:  The port consists of facilities in Puerto Comercial at the head of the bay, and in Ensenada de Escombreras (Escombreras Cove) on the eastern side of the bay. Berths handle containers, breakbulk, livestock, passengers and dry and liquid bulk cargoes. Cartagena is also an important Spanish Naval base
The port of Cartagena is a Core port in the Mediterranean Corridor in the European Union's Trans-European Transport Network.
LOCATION:  On the Mediterranean coast, 250 n.m. NE of the Straits of Gibraltar and 270 n.m. SW of Barcelona.
