OVERVIEW:
Callao serves the city of Lima and is the main port of Peru. The port comprises conventional
berths at Callao and offshore facilities to the north at La Pampilla. Callao berths
handle dry bulk, breakbulk, Ro-Ro, passengers, project, containers, crude, petroleum
products, chemicals, LPG and vegetable oil. Offshore berths at La Pampilla handle
crude, petroleum products and LPG. Other facilities include a naval base and a commercial
shipyard.
LOCATION:
Callao is protected to the SW by Isla San Lorenzo at the southern end of Bahia de
Callao. The port lies in the western suburbs of Lima. La Pampilla facilities are located
within Bahia de Callao, along the coastline 5-15 km. to the north.
