OVERVIEW:  A large natural harbour that specialises in containerised and bulk liquid cargoes. The northern shores are low and developed while the southern shores consists mostly of mangrove swamps. A notable feature are the runways of Kingsford Smith Airport which extend into the bay from the north shore.
Sydney Ports Corporation is now trading as Port Authority of New South Wales following the amalgamation of Sydney, Newcastle and Port Kembla port corporations. The State-owned landside assets are leased to NSW Port consortium under a 99-year lease.
