OVERVIEW:  River port, consists of three sections (Birsfelden, Muttenz and Basel-Kleinhuningen) in the cantons of Basel-Landschaft (Basel-Country) and Basel-Stadt (Basel-City)
The Birsfelden section of the port on the left-hand side of the Rhine (in Basel-Landschaft canton) specialises in the handling and storage of steel and other metals associated with production facilities and trimodal logistics. Also handles other dry goods, containers and petroleum products.
Liquid fuels and propellants are handled and stored in the Muttenz-Au section of the port on the left-hand side of the Rhine (in Basel-Landschaft canton). Additionally, food-grade oils, fertiliser, aluminium oxide, grains and other dry goods, and heavy cargo are handled.
The Kleinhuningen section of the port (in Basel-Stadt canton) has three container terminals. Dry goods such as steel, aluminium, non-ferrous metals, as well as liquid fuels and propellants, are also handled and stored in Kleinhuningen.
