Saldanha Bay is located on the west coast of South Africa, 54 n.m. north of Cape Town. It is the only iron ore handling port in South Africa and it also serves base metal mines, an adjacent heavy minerals smelter as well as nearby crude storage facility. It is a natural harbour, partly protected by an artificial breakwater.

Itaqui is a modern, fairly sheltered multipurpose port encompassing Itaqui Point, extending to the north as far as Madeira Point, where Ponta da Madeira bulk manganese export terminal is located. In front of Itaqui, at a distance of 400 m. from the quay, is the Island of Guarapira with maximum dimensions of 100×300 m. and stretching in a north–south direction.

Main Cargoes Handled:  Loading: Bulk manganese ore, pig iron, aluminium ingots. Discharge: Bulk fertilisers, malt, wheat, rice, coal, petroleum products, caustic soda, tallow, cement in bags, general cargo.

Telis Terminal:  It is a regional collection and distribution centre for diesel, gasoline, jet fuel, kerosene, fuel oil, gas oil and LPG.

The port of Rio de Janeiro is located within the inlet on the western coast of the Baia de Guanabara, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, capital of the state of Rio de Janeiro.

The port is maintained and operated by Rio de Janeiro and Niteroi dock companies respectively. The Rio-RJ Dock act as the holding company. Exports include general cargoes (containerised) minerals, grain and oil products. Imports include breakbulk, steel products, general cargo and crude.
