OVERVIEW:  Formerly a Portuguese colony, Macau is a special administrative region of the People's Republic of China. The territory consists of Macau Peninsula, Taipa and Coloane, and is divided into seven parishes.
LOCATION:  On the southern coast of China, 60 km. west of Hong Kong and on the western side of the Pearl River estuary. It is surrounded by the South China Sea in the east and south, and neighbours the city of Guangdong to the west and north.

PRE-ARRIVAL INFORMATION:  Owners/operators of non-Macau registered vessels intending to enter waters of Macau for berthing or work should apply for a port call to the Marine and Water Bureau in advance.

Vaccination Requirements:  There is no risk of yellow fever in Macau; however, there is a certificate requirement. Under International Health Regulations, proof of vaccination against yellow fever is required for travellers aged 9 months or over arriving from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission, and for travellers having transited for more than 12 hours through an airport of a country with risk of yellow fever transmission.

TELEPHONES:  Telephone numbers in Macau are eight-digit numbers. Fixed land line numbers start with 28, while mobile phone numbers start with 6. Calls from Macau to mainland China, Hong Kong and Portugal are treated as international calls.
SHORE LEAVE:  Crime levels are low but pickpocketing and other street crime does happen. You should take particular care of passports, credit cards and money in crowded areas, your belongings when checking out of hotels, and when visiting casinos late at night.
Uber is illegal in Macau. The Macau police will take action against drivers and passengers of unlicensed taxi services, including Uber.
REPATRIATION:  All visitors must hold a passport or a valid travel document for travel to Macau; unless exempt, all visitors must have a visa or entry permit. A Macau visa can be obtained through embassies and consulates of the PR of China which should be used within its validity. Visitors may also apply for an entry permit or visa upon arrival at an immigration checkpoint on arrival.
