OVERVIEW:  The main activity of the port is the export of bauxite from the Rio Tinto Alcan (RTA) mine. The port also handles cargoes in support of operations including fuel oil and breakbulk cargo. Cargo is handled at Lorim Point East Wharf, Lorim Point West Wharf, Evans Landing Wharf and Humbug Point Wharf. Port facilities are managed by Rio Tinto with North Queensland Bulk Ports acting as Port Authority. Ports North provides pilotage services at the port of Weipa.
LOCATION:  On Albatross Bay, on the eastern shore of the Gulf of Carpentaria, 640 km. NW of Cairns and 1,180 km. east of Darwin.
