OVERVIEW:  One of three port districts operated by Ibaraki Prefecture that make up the Port of Ibaraki, the other two districts being Hitachi and Oarai. Hitachinaka is an expanding port district with modern container and Ro-Ro terminals. Hitachinaka also handles coal, project, breakbulk and occasionally cruise vessels. Expansion is ongoing with additional land reclamation taking place.
LOCATION:  On the east coast of Honshu, 4 n.m. south of Hitachi Port and 30 n.m. NNW of Kashima.
